Federal agents conduct search of Newton home

Numerous federal agents were involved in the search of a Newton, Massachusetts, home on Wednesday morning.

The search of the 2,400-square-foot, recently renovated home began just before 10 a.m. While officials confirmed the FBI was involved, the reason for the search remains unclear.

"The FBI is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity at that address," a spokesperson wrote in a brief statement.

The FBI declined further comment.

Sky5 flew over the tan home at 24 Fairfield St. and saw white tents set up on the front lawn and several agents were wearing white coveralls. Images from the ground show that other agents wore blue T-shirts marked "FBI Evidence Response Team."

Boxes and bags were carried out of the home by the investigators. Officials also appeared to be working on the home's security cameras.

A couple was seen hugging outside, then going back into the home.

One resident of the area said that investigators told them neighbors were not in any danger, but they refused to share any additional details.

"I see all this police presence showing up, I'm concerned what's going on," one neighbor said.

The corner property was purchased in September 2020, but the home was damaged by an electrical fire and the family did not move in until renovations were completed. Neighbors said the couple has lived in the home for about a year and the owners have two young adult sons.
