Saturday, Sept. 9: Veritas 2023 features Dr. Brant PitreLAKE CHARLES — The annual Veritas Conference will feature Dr. Brant Pitre, PhD, as the keynote speaker on Saturday, September 9. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. with the Opening Session beginning at 9:00 a.m. All events will be at the Lake Charles Civic Center, 900 Lakeshore Drive.

Dr. Pitre, a Louisiana native, is a world-renowned scripture scholar who has written extensively on the topic of Our Lord, Jewish tradition, and the Scriptures. Come hear Dr. Pitre open up the scriptures for you.

Veritas, which is Latin for Truth, will also feature breakout speakers, strengthening the faith of believers and teaching us to love God more deeply in His Holy Scriptures and in the Eucharist.

Cost is $40. Registration is open by clicking here. A limited number of box lunches may be purchased separately for $7.00 per lunch. Lunches are pre-purchase only. There will be a one hour, 20-minute break for lunch with several local restaurants available in the area.

The Catholic Church designates October as the Month of the Holy Rosary. During this month, the faithful venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially under her title of Our Lady of the Rosary and make special effort to honor the Holy Rosary with group recitations.

Deacon Brian Soileau, Director of Saint Charles Center and Camp Karol in the Diocese of Lake Charles, will emcee the event. Inspired by the Rosary Coast to Coast nationwide event, various groups and organizations within church parishes are encouraged to participate.

The event will be broadcast on FM 107.1 in the immediate area around the Civic Center. This will allow the boaters to hear from the boats.

State Senator Jeremy Stine will lead a decade in French, and members of the Hispanic community at St. Henry Catholic Church will lead a decade in Spanish. The other decades will be led in English.

Participants will meet at 2:30 p.m. in the area on the west side of the Civic Center. Any size groups are welcome.

Saturday, Oct. 7: Theology of the Body basic trainingLAKE CHARLES — The Diocese of Lake Charles announces dates for Basic Training in Theology of the Body with instructor Jennifer Prather, founder of Image & Gift Ministries LLC. A choice of two training days will be 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, or Saturday, January 27, 2024. Participants only need to attend one of the training dates. Location will be announced at a later time.

Topics covered will include:• Foundational Principles to Understand Theology of the Body• Understand Original Solitude, Original Nakedness and Original Innocence• The Fall, Redemption, and Resurrection of Man

Friday, Oct. 13: St. Theodore Parish fundraiserSULPHUR — St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff will host a fundraiser on Friday, October 13, at the West Cal Event Center, 401 Arena Road. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., with food and entertainment beginning at 7:00 p.m. Featured music will be provided by Ryan Foret & Foret Tradition. Sunday, Jan. 14: 'An Afternoon with Christ'LAKE CHARLES — The Diocese of Lake Charles continues its monthly series, "An Afternoon with Christ," on Sunday, January 14, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 935 Bilbo Street. Rev. Trey Ange, Pastor Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jennings, will share a reflection on the importance of Eucharistic Adoration.
